Babies and food
A mothers milk is the best food for a newborn baby, even if the baby is bottle fed later on, there are big advantages in breastfeeding for the first few days, even more if you breastfeed for the first 4 months. Colostrum, is the thin pre –milk produced just after the mother gives birth. This is rich in antibodies which will increase your baby’s immunity to illness. The mothers breasts then produce a thicker milk which will supply your baby’s complete nutritional needs for the first 6 months and boost even further the baby’s immunity or resistance to infections. Breast milk contains all the proteins, vitamins and a mineral that your baby needs it also has the fatty acids which are important parts of the brain and nervous system.
